Italy has been quite reticent in the past years to open itself to online gambling. It has now, to the joy of online operators, reviewed its stand on the matter, and will allow such businesses to be conducted with online operators, such as Betfair.
Betfair is a long standing and reputable UK online gambling company, which has been struggling to get into the Italian market for some time now. And its dream will soon come true thanks to Italy’s relax on the matter.
All Betfair has to do now is to get all the necessary passes, which will allow its business to operate in Italy.
The new rule that allows such exchanges to take place will still need to be vetted by the conservative European Commission. After which, it will then be handled by the Finance Ministry of Italy for a final say.
Betfair wants to make it big across Europe and internationally too. Italy has always been an interesting market and it has caught Betfair’s attention for many years. And now is their chance to prove themselves to the Italians.
Betfair’s Chief Legal and Regulatory Affairs Officer, Martin Cruddace, says only good things can come from this opening. And he knows that such a move will be beneficial to the Italian players. Betfair will also profit from this quite big and viable market.
As Italy has loosened up on its online gambling rules, this has attracted big names of the online gambling world, who have offered casino and poker games to its Italian players. Italy has since last year been working to regulate its gambling laws and the approval to operate is the last in line in such a reform.
It is refreshing to see countries such as Italy, which had a bad start with online gambling, trying to improve things, so that they and their people do not lose out on online gambling. With a clear set of regulations, this forces online companies to abide to those in view to enter the Italian market. Therefore, it assures Italians that they are dealing with totally legit online companies. So it is a win win situation for Italy and the bookies dealing in its waters.
